EDI Element Translation

EDI Element Translation maintenance allows the configuration of translation tables to cross reference external values (sent within the EDI Messages) with Internal Values (values held within the Business Application System).

When configuring an EDI Trading Partner Event it is a normal requirement to translate coded values . The common uses for EDI Element Translations is for Currency Codes, Tax Codes  & Partner Identification Codes.

For example; You are sending EDI Messages to your Trading Partner using the EDIFACT standard, when you refer to the coded currency code (element 6345) it must comply with ISO 4217, which for Euros is "EUR", but within your business application system you refer to Euros as "EURO". This example would be configured as:

EDI Trading Partner Event - Element Translation

Element Id 6345
Internal Value EURO
External Value EUR

This example uses the EDIFACT Coded Currency Element, with Id 6345. It is important that the external Element Translation value for Outbound Events exist in the code list table for elements that has associated code list.

The ECS/EDI Processor will automatically exchange the values configured for the EDI Trading Partner Event. EDI Element Translation is supported for both Inbound and Outbound Events.
